Hi World!
Artist’s Bio:
K. Randall Wilcox has worked professionally as a graphic designer for more than 20 years, but his passion lies in the fine arts. What began as a hobby of photography grew into a passion and an artistic outlet. His influences include great painters such as Rauschenberg, Warhol, and Pollock, as well as photographers Stieglitz, Cartier-Bresson, Sudek and Brassai. Inspired by these artists, Wilcox seeks to illuminate the layers and contrasts inherent our environment. After shooting for over a decade, Wilcox began painting and is now exploring other types of mixed media expressions.Travel is one of the great enjoyments in life for Wilcox. Whether it is the desert, Prague, Budapest, Mexico, Istanbul, Cuba, urban United States or the Boneyard of old neon signs in Las Vegas, he loves to shoot and experiment with texture. Where others find decay, he sees character. Wilcox received his BA in Art from Cal State Northridge in 1991, and is the founder and partner of Once Blind Studios, a boutique graphic design studio specializing in brand design and heritage-themed products.
When the weather is great and I'm not in the studio working, you can often find me out on the road riding my motorcycle, in search of old barns or places to photograph. Nashville and it's surrounding areas are full of finds. If you ride and are interested in following that story, you can check out my blog here. Tennessee On Two Wheels
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
So much of my inspiration for my photography and paintings come from my surrounding environment. Having lived in several cities over the years, my subject matter is often fueled by the weathered places like the downtown urban and industrial areas in Los Angeles and the long forgotten and abandoned places of the desert.
I believe there are still stories to retell of the lost and forgotten places.
PHOTOGRAPHY: I consider myself and emotional shooter with a style that is rooted in storytelling. The starting point of capturing images and frames to take the viewer on a journey to a time place.
PAINTINGS: So much of my painting style is rooted in the subject matter of my photos. The system of layering media and paint is used to create an aged or weathered look. I have created special brushes and specific palette knifes in what I call the dragging process.
